The Grate Steak opened its doors for business on Military Highway in Norfolk, Virginia in 1984. We began as a "cook your own" steak house with an all-you-can-eat salad bar and baked potato topping bar. This was a new concept in quality dining because it was everything you wanted in a "great steak" dinner. Premium USDA Choice Midwestern corn-fed beef, piping hot baked potatoes, and unlimited trips to our salad bar gave our guests an affordable, unique and fun dining experience in a casual atmosphere.

Although the concept has changed somewhat over the years. you can still have fun with family and friends around our live charcoal grills, or sit back and relax while we do the cooking. To this day, fifty percent of our guests choose to cook their own steaks and meet new friends at the giant charcoal grill.

As you browse our menu you can see that over time we have added delicious chicken and seafood entrees, award winning Prime Rib, a variety of appetizers and sides, a childrens menu, and decadent desserts. To compliment your meal we have added popular beers, cocktails and wines by the glass or bottle.The Grate Steak caters to guests that enjoy a unique dining experience and also like to have fun at the same time.
